How the work is handled
- Snow Is the Priority, Not the Side JobDispatch, equipment, salt and team scheduling are planned around winter. Landscaping uses the same teams in summer, but winter is what the business is designed for.
- Per-Event LoggingEvery event logged: trigger time, dispatch, arrival, surfaces serviced, salt applied, departure and photos. A clear record of what was done and when, shared with you.
- Canada + US Coverage, Montréal Home BaseRequests are taken from commercial sites across Canada and the United States. Greater Montréal is home base, with Laval, the North Shore and the rest of the CMM still at the centre of our routes.
- Triggers in WritingThe accumulation and freezing-rain thresholds that start a dispatch, and the surfaces covered, are written into the agreement.
- Bilingual FR / ENAccount communication, event logs and tenant notices in French or English, whichever you prefer.
- Optional Summer LandscapingMowing, spring cleanup and grounds care can be added to the same year-round contract if you want one vendor. Snow-only works too.
By climate
- Long, cold winters with heavy snow and a short, warm summerLong seasons with frequent storms make the trigger depth, salting plan and response time the heart of any contract. Ask how each visit is logged, where snow will be piled or hauled, and what spring cleanup of sand and turf damage is included.
- Wet maritime weather, salt air, many freeze-thaw cycles and storm-driven rain and snowWet, heavy snow often turns to rain and then ice, so salting and re-treating matter as much as plowing. Ask how freezing rain events are handled, how often the crew returns during a long storm, and how salt damage near walkways is limited.
- Four seasons: humid summers, cold winters with snow and repeated freeze-thawStorms are fewer but less predictable, and freeze-thaw creates refreezing ice overnight after a mild day. Ask whether the contract is per visit or seasonal, how pre-treating works before a storm, and what lawn and landscape care is bundled for the warm months.
- Hot, humid summers, mild winters, heavy storms and in coastal areas hurricanes; pests and mold all yearSnow is rare, so the work is year-round grounds care, storm debris cleanup and fast-growing turf and shrubs. Ask how often mowing and trimming happen in peak growth, and how quickly the crew clears lots and walkways after a hurricane or major storm.
- Desert heat, strong sun and UV, dust, monsoon downpours, very little freezingWithout snow, property care centers on irrigation checks, dust and debris after windstorms and keeping plants alive in heat. Ask whether the contract covers monsoon cleanup, drip system repair and early morning work in summer.
- Dry, high-altitude climate with strong UV, big day-night swings, snow and freeze-thawDry powder drifts quickly and big temperature swings refreeze melt into ice by evening. Ask about drift control, return visits for refreeze, de-icer choices that protect concrete, and where snow will go when piles grow over a long season.
- Mild, wet marine climate: long rainy seasons, moss and moisture, little hard freezing near the coastRain and mild weather drive steady growth of turf, moss and weeds most of the year, while rare snow events catch sites unprepared. Ask for a contract that covers leaf and moss cleanup, drain clearing and an on-call plan for the occasional freeze or snowfall.
- Dry summers and wet winters, wildfire smoke and ash, earthquakes, almost no snow on the coastGrounds care here means brush clearance and fire-safe spacing in dry months and drainage when winter storms arrive. Ask whether the contract includes defensible space work around buildings and storm drain clearing before the rainy season.
- Extreme cold, permafrost in places, very short building season and remote freightSnow and ice cover the ground for most of the year, and equipment has to start and run in extreme cold. Ask about backup equipment, response times during long storms, ice control on steps and walkways, and the short summer window for cleanup.

Questions
Which areas do you serve?
Commercial properties across Canada and the United States. Greater Montréal is home base: Laval, Terrebonne, Mascouche, Repentigny, Blainville, Boisbriand, Sainte-Thérèse, Saint-Eustache, Mirabel and the rest of the North Shore remain at the centre of our routes. For sites elsewhere in North America, send the city and property details by email and a specialist who serves your area follows up.
What is a "per-event" snow contract?
Snow service is dispatched every time a contracted trigger is reached, for example 2.5 cm of accumulation or any freezing-rain event. Each dispatch is a separate event with its own log. Bills are itemized per event, so property managers can trace every visit.
What goes in an event log?
Trigger time, dispatch time, arrival time, surfaces serviced (parking lot, sidewalks, entries, loading docks), quantity and type of de-icer applied, departure time, and photos of every zone. It is a clear record of what was done and when, for your files or your insurer.
What de-icer do you use?
It depends on temperature and surface. Standard rock salt above roughly -10 °C, a calcium chloride blend for severe cold, calcium magnesium acetate (CMA) or treated brine where corrosion or vegetation is a concern. We choose per event, not per season, and log the choice.
Do you clear sidewalks and entryways?
Yes. Sidewalks, entries, loading zones and pedestrian paths are standard on every commercial contract, with walk-behind and single-stage machines for what the trucks and loaders can't reach. They get the same log treatment as the lot.
Are you bilingual?
Yes. Ashford Group works in French and English: account communication, event logs and tenant-facing notices are available in either language.
What about landscaping in summer?
Landscaping is offered as an optional add-on. Same teams and same contract, running April through November. You can take snow-only if you already have a landscaper you like, or bundle both if you want one vendor for the full twelve months.
Do you handle multi-property portfolios?
Yes. Several commercial sites can go on one agreement, whether they sit in one metro or across several cities in Canada and the United States, with one point of contact for your account, planned routes and itemized invoicing per site.
How soon after a storm do you arrive?
The trigger levels and service window for each site are set with you and written into the service agreement, based on the property and its place on the route.
How do I get a quote?
Email us the details. Include the city, the type of property, the surfaces to clear and a site plan if you have one. Every request comes in by email, so nothing gets lost.
