My garage door will not open. Is it the spring or the opener?
Often it is the spring. If you heard a loud bang from the garage, can see a gap in the coiled spring above the door, or the opener runs but the door barely lifts, a broken torsion spring is the likely cause. If the opener makes no sound at all, check the power and the remote batteries first. Do not keep running the opener against a door with a broken spring, because it can strip the opener gear.
