How the work is handled
- A Written Move PlanTimeline, team size, equipment, IT shutdown windows and contingencies are set out before the move, so decisions are made in advance and not on the day.
- IT Handled With CareServers, networking gear and workstations are labelled, inventoried and packed in protective materials, with shutdown and power-up windows coordinated with your IT team.
- Modular Furniture by the SpecSteelcase, Herman Miller, Haworth and Teknion systems are disassembled, transported and reassembled following the manufacturer instructions.
- Evening and Weekend MovesMost commercial moves happen Friday night through Sunday so the business does not lose a day. Timing is discussed up front and reflected in the quote.
- English and FrenchQuotes and follow-up in English or French, across Canada and the United States.
- One Move or Several PhasesA single weekend move, a phased relocation with storage in between, or a tenant move-out. The plan fits the move.
By climate
- Long, cold winters with heavy snow and a short, warm summerSnow and ice on loading docks, ramps and sidewalks slow every move and raise the risk of damage to furniture and equipment. Ask how floors, elevators and electronics will be protected from cold and slush, and keep a weather backup date for winter moves.
- Wet maritime weather, salt air, many freeze-thaw cycles and storm-driven rain and snowStorms and rough weather can close roads and ferries without much warning, so office moves need flexible dates. Ask how equipment is kept dry during loading in wind-driven rain and whether the truck can wait or come back if a storm hits.
- Four seasons: humid summers, cold winters with snow and repeated freeze-thawLease ends cluster at certain times of the year and summer is the busiest moving period, so booking early helps. Ask how floors and equipment are protected from slush in winter and humidity in summer, and what happens if a storm delays the move.
- Hot, humid summers, mild winters, heavy storms and in coastal areas hurricanes; pests and mold all yearHeat and humidity can damage electronics, documents and wood furniture left in trucks or on docks, and sudden storms interrupt loading. Ask about climate-controlled storage, covered loading and how the move adapts if hurricane season disrupts the schedule.
- Desert heat, strong sun and UV, dust, monsoon downpours, very little freezingTruck interiors get hot enough to harm electronics, batteries and some furniture finishes, so moves often start early in the day. Ask whether equipment will sit in a hot truck overnight and how dust is kept off servers and screens during the move.
- Dry, high-altitude climate with strong UV, big day-night swings, snow and freeze-thawMountain roads, snow and steep access can slow trucks and limit the size of vehicle that reaches a site. Ask how the route is planned in winter, whether a smaller shuttle truck is needed and how equipment is protected from big temperature swings in transit.
- Mild, wet marine climate: long rainy seasons, moss and moisture, little hard freezing near the coastRain is likely on moving day for much of the year, so covered loading, floor protection and wrapping for electronics matter. Ask how wet weather affects the schedule and how cardboard boxes and furniture are kept from soaking up moisture.
- Dry summers and wet winters, wildfire smoke and ash, earthquakes, almost no snow on the coastFire season can bring road closures, smoke days and sudden evacuation moves, while dry weather keeps most other moves on schedule. Ask how smoke days are handled and whether tall furniture and server racks are reinstalled with earthquake anchoring.
- Extreme cold, permafrost in places, very short building season and remote freightMoves to or from remote areas depend on seasonal roads, barges or air freight, so they are planned months ahead. Ask how equipment is protected from deep cold in transit and storage, and what happens if a shipment misses the last barge or road window of the season.

Questions
Do you handle IT equipment?
Yes. Servers, networking, storage, workstations and AV can all be part of a commercial move. Equipment is labelled and inventoried, packed in protective materials, and shutdown and power-up windows are coordinated with your IT team. Configuration stays with your IT team; the move covers transport and physical reinstallation.
Can you reassemble cubicles and modular furniture?
Yes. Major commercial systems such as Steelcase, Herman Miller, Haworth and Teknion are reassembled following the manufacturer instructions. Note the systems you have in your email so they are included in the scope.
Do you do moves on weekends and overnight?
Yes. Most commercial moves happen Friday night through Sunday. Timing is discussed up front and reflected in the quote.
Do you provide packing materials?
Packing materials such as bins, dollies, padded covers, anti-static bags, labels and asset tags can be included in the scope and delivered before move day.
What is the difference between a commercial move and a residential one?
A commercial move has an IT handover, modular furniture systems, building access coordination and a deadline tied to business operations. It needs a written plan, which is why every Ashford Group quote starts with one.
How far in advance should I book?
More notice makes planning easier, especially for larger warehouse or multi-floor moves and busy end-of-month dates. Tell us your target date in your email and we will be clear about what is realistic.
