How the work is handled

  • HEPA-Filtered VacuumsDrywall dust and sanding particles are fine enough that a regular vacuum blows them back into the room. HEPA filtration captures them instead.
  • Several Passes, Top to BottomA dust wipe from high to low, a HEPA vacuum of every horizontal surface, then a damp wipe. Several passes, because fine dust keeps settling in between.
  • Hidden Surfaces IncludedTops of doors, ceiling fan blades, vent registers, window sills and tracks, outlet covers and the tops of cabinets. The places renovation dust hides.
  • Vents and RegistersRenovation dust gets pulled into the ventilation. Accessible vent covers and registers can be included, and a separate duct cleaning can be suggested when it makes sense.
  • Written ScopeRooms, surfaces and vents included are written down before the clean, so you know exactly what you are paying for.
  • English and FrenchService available in English and French, including in Quebec.

By climate

  • Long, cold winters with heavy snow and a short, warm summerWindows stay shut for months, so renovation dust has nowhere to go and keeps settling back on surfaces and into the furnace. Ask for HEPA vacuuming of vents and a furnace filter change at the end, and plan the clean for after the last trades leave, not between them.
  • Wet maritime weather, salt air, many freeze-thaw cycles and storm-driven rain and snowDamp air makes drywall dust cling to walls, windows and floors as a pasty film rather than a dry powder. Ask whether the clean includes washing walls and window tracks, and allow time for surfaces to dry before the final walk-through.
  • Four seasons: humid summers, cold winters with snow and repeated freeze-thawSummer humidity makes fine dust stick to cabinets and baseboards, while closed-up winter homes recirculate it through the ducts. Ask for a HEPA vent and register clean in either season, and book the final clean after painting is fully dry.
  • Hot, humid summers, mild winters, heavy storms and in coastal areas hurricanes; pests and mold all yearAir conditioning runs constantly and pulls renovation dust deep into ducts and coils, where it can feed mold in humid weather. Ask whether vents and returns will be sealed during work and cleaned after, and whether a new filter is part of the final clean.
  • Desert heat, strong sun and UV, dust, monsoon downpours, very little freezingOutdoor dust blows in through open doors during the job and mixes with drywall powder, so homes often need a second wipe-down a few days later. Ask for HEPA vacuuming instead of dry sweeping and a cooling system filter change once the work is done.
  • Dry, high-altitude climate with strong UV, big day-night swings, snow and freeze-thawVery dry air keeps fine dust floating longer and builds static that holds it on screens, electronics and light fixtures. Ask for HEPA vacuuming and damp wiping of every surface, plus a second touch-up visit once the dust has fully settled.
  • Mild, wet marine climate: long rainy seasons, moss and moisture, little hard freezing near the coastDamp weather means mud and wet footprints from trades get ground into floors, and drywall dust turns sticky on windows and trim. Ask whether the quote includes removing floor protection, washing floors and wiping window sills where condensation traps dust.
  • Dry summers and wet winters, wildfire smoke and ash, earthquakes, almost no snow on the coastRenovation dust often mixes with outdoor dust or wildfire ash during the dry months, then settles into carpets and window tracks. Ask for HEPA filtration during the final clean and a filter change, especially if smoke days happened while doors were left open.
  • Extreme cold, permafrost in places, very short building season and remote freightHomes are sealed tight against the cold, so renovation dust stays trapped inside and runs through ventilation systems again and again. Ask for HEPA cleaning of air exchangers and vents, and plan the final clean early since supplies and booking options are limited in remote areas.

Questions

Why do I need a specialized post-renovation clean?

Construction dust is much finer than household dust. Drywall sanding, tile cutting and concrete work produce particles that settle everywhere, get pulled into the ventilation and keep coming back. A regular vacuum tends to move them around. A post-renovation clean uses HEPA-filtered vacuums, several passes and covers the hidden surfaces regular cleaning skips.

What does the multi-pass method involve?

First, a top-to-bottom dust wipe: fan blades, light fixtures, door tops and wall decor, so dust falls to lower surfaces. Second, a HEPA vacuum of every horizontal surface, including window sills, outlet covers and vent registers. Third, a damp wipe of everything. Several passes matter because fine dust keeps settling between them.

Do you clean vents?

Accessible vent covers and registers can be vacuumed and wiped as part of the clean. For larger renovations, a separate professional duct cleaning may be worth considering, and that is mentioned in the quote when it applies.

What size of renovation is this for?

Anything that produced construction dust, from a small bathroom update to a whole-home renovation. The scope and the time on site scale with the size of the home and the work done, and both are written into the quote.

How soon after the contractor leaves should the clean happen?

It is usually best to wait a day or two after the last dusty work so airborne dust can settle. Tell us the contractor's finish date in your email and timing is discussed in the follow-up.

What if only one room was renovated?

The clean can be scoped by room, but dust usually travels beyond the renovated room. Even a bathroom renovation leaves dust in hallways and nearby bedrooms, so adjacent areas are discussed when the scope is written.
