How the work is handled

  • Dedicated, Not RotatingThe aim is the same person or small team in your home, someone who learns the residence, your preferences and your routines.
  • Discretion by DesignNo photos of private residences in our marketing and no client names in anything public. A confidentiality agreement can be part of the arrangement.

  • You Approve Who Comes InAnyone proposed for your household is someone you meet and approve before they start.
  • Estate Support Across PropertiesFor households with more than one residence: seasonal opening and closing, arrival preparation and coordination through one point of contact.
  • English and FrenchConsultations and follow-up in English or French, across Canada and the United States.

By climate

  • Long, cold winters with heavy snow and a short, warm summerSeasonal homes left empty in winter need regular checks for frozen pipes, heating failures and ice on roofs and walkways. Ask how the house will be opened and closed each season, who monitors it during storms and how arrivals are prepared when snow is still on the ground.
  • Wet maritime weather, salt air, many freeze-thaw cycles and storm-driven rain and snowCoastal estates face salt on windows and outdoor furniture, damp linens and mildew in closed rooms between stays. Ask how staff will air out the house, care for fabrics and wood in the humidity, and check the property after each major storm.
  • Four seasons: humid summers, cold winters with snow and repeated freeze-thawEach season brings a different routine, from storing outdoor furniture and covering gardens in fall to airing rooms and controlling humidity in summer. Ask whether seasonal transitions and arrival preparation are part of the housekeeper's role or billed separately.
  • Hot, humid summers, mild winters, heavy storms and in coastal areas hurricanes; pests and mold all yearHumidity can damage fine furniture, art, linens and wardrobes, so staff need to manage air conditioning, dehumidifiers and mildew prevention. Ask how the estate will be secured before a hurricane and who checks it afterwards when owners are away.
  • Desert heat, strong sun and UV, dust, monsoon downpours, very little freezingIntense sun fades fabrics, rugs and artwork near windows, and dust builds up quickly in large rooms. Ask how staff rotate window coverings, care for wood that dries and cracks, and prepare the home and pool area before arrivals in the hottest months.
  • Dry, high-altitude climate with strong UV, big day-night swings, snow and freeze-thawMountain homes often sit empty between ski season and summer, and dry air cracks wood furniture and floors while snow piles up on decks and entries. Ask how the estate is prepared before each arrival, including heating, snow clearing coordination and humidity control for fine finishes.
  • Mild, wet marine climate: long rainy seasons, moss and moisture, little hard freezing near the coastDamp air leads to mildew on leather, linens and closets, and moss creeps over terraces and outdoor furniture. Ask how staff will run dehumidifiers, air out closed rooms and coordinate exterior care during the long rainy season.
  • Dry summers and wet winters, wildfire smoke and ash, earthquakes, almost no snow on the coastFire season means ash on terraces, smoke in fabrics and the chance of evacuation, so an estate needs a clear plan for valuables and air purifiers. Ask who handles post-smoke cleaning of upholstery and drapes and how the home is checked after an earthquake.
  • Extreme cold, permafrost in places, very short building season and remote freightRemote homes need staff who can manage heating, water and supplies when deliveries are slow and the season is short. Ask how the residence is prepared for long cold stretches, who checks it during absences and how supplies are stocked before roads or flights become limited.

Questions

What distinguishes Ashford Group from a regular cleaning service?

Ashford Group focuses on dedicated housekeeping and estate services for private residences rather than drop-in cleaning. The aim is the same person or small team, working from a written household brief, with discretion as the default.

Can you work under a confidentiality agreement?

Yes. Tell us in your request if you want an NDA or your own confidentiality agreement to be part of the arrangement.

How are housekeepers selected?

Selection is discussed for each placement. You meet anyone proposed for your household, can ask for references, and approve who starts.

Do you offer estate management?

Yes, for households with more than one residence or larger properties: housekeeping coordination across residences, seasonal opening and closing, arrival preparation and vendor coordination. It is quoted separately from housekeeper placement.

What about live-in staff?

A live-in arrangement can be part of a placement. Accommodations, hours and terms are set out in writing and follow the labour standards of your province or state.

Do you provide temporary coverage?

Yes. Short-term housekeeping coverage can be arranged while your existing staff are on vacation or leave, subject to availability in your area.

How is pricing set?

Pricing depends on the arrangement: the size of the residence, hours per week, live-in or live-out, and any estate support. Send your request and you get a written quote. Consultation requests are free.
